Thread: A small translation assistance.

Hello, I'm trying to translate this sentence so it makes sense in English but I think the tenses had me confused.

если бы я смогла отослать вам письма вы бы их получили
=
If I could send you letters, you would have received them.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give.

What about this one?
-If I could have sent you the letters you would have received them (by now).

I think that your translation would be correct if the original sentence was as follows:
-Если бы я могла отослать вам письма, вы бы их получили.

смогла is normally used when you are talking about the past.

Thanks for that ReDSanchous. I'm was actually trying to translate that for a Russian friend because she was confused with the English tenses. I thought, "No worries, I'll help her out!" Then I realised, I was confused with the Russian tenses !!!
