Thread: More help with translation?

I don't speak any Russian but I want very badly to learn. While I'm doing that, can I get help with some translations as I go along (not in cyrillic though, because I cannot read that yet)...

This is what I need:

"Hey there. I hope you had a good weekend.
Today is my last day here and I am not very happy about that.

It would be nice to see you at some point but that's up to you. Or was that limited to your birthday only? If so, I understand.

I miss you..."

Jej tam. Ja nadejus', u vas byl horoshij uikjend. Segodnja moj poslednij den' zdes', i ja ne ochen' schastliv ot jetogo.

Bylo by horosho uvidet' vas eshhe, no vam reshat'.. ili vse jeto bylo tol'ko v ramkah vashego dnja rozhdenija? Esli tak, ja ponimaju...

May I ask, though, what good exactly those transliterations are going to do for you? They aren't going to help you learn the language, they aren't something you can read to a native speaker and have them appreciate it, and they're not really good for much of anything at all, really. I suspect you would be MUCH better served by simply putting forth a week's worth of crash studying and making a couple of simple 3- or 4-word sentences of your own, in actual Russian...Just my unsolicited opinion, though...

I think they're trying to impress a native Russian-speaker with whom they wish to keep in touch, with serious studying after? People don't always just ask about translating things for academic reasons .

Two points:
a) this post is THREE YEARS OLD. I just realized that. That has to be some sort of record for amount of time before a reply!
b)Seventh-Monkey No, I fully understand that, but my point remains. That transliteration is VERY approximate. If she wants to say this over the phone to her friend in Moscow, it's not going to sound anything like Russian if she doesn't know the sounds the characters represent. Hopefull, this is a moot point, as Angie has now had three years to learn actual Russian...

Ah. I didn't see the date . "Moot point" is the perfect phrase.

I think the Provisional Governemt posted here, asking what to do about ять. Maybe he can help them out? :P
