    help translating a short phrase

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this please?

Как я мог? Меня бы наши потом убили.

obviously the first part is "how could I?" but I'm not too sure of the second, is it something like "they would kill me"?.

    many thanks in advance.

Что ты, Рамиль! Там же "Меня бы наши потом убили"!
    "Наши", а не "нашли".
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

«Наши» means people of the same circle where you belong.

    Совсем слепой стал.

my guys would have killed me.

Наши means 'ours' in English. A little bit more of a context would help, it's a collective term of all the guys in the gang (or some other group). The speaker just uses 'наши' instead of 'the members of my group/gang/class/team etc'.

thank you all for your help, especially the stuff on «Наши»

it makes sense to me now. From the context the speaker is obviously saying he couldn't do something because his group would see it as a betrayal, and "kill him"- not literally of course

    Yes, that's right.
A betrayal or just something bad.
