    Have you lost weight?

One of my good friends is Russian, and in fantastic shape, but there's an old guy at the restaurant where she's a hostess who always asks her if she's lost weight, and she doesn't even know who he is. It drives her nuts.

So me, being the good friend that I am, like to throw in a russian phrase when speaking to her around other people to get a reaction out of her. Sometimes it's something blatantly sexual, last time I asked her "Aren't you Ukranian?" stuff like that.

So I'm wondering what is the proper way to say "have you lost weight?" and if there's a way to suggest surprise or shock without explicitly saying so, that'd be great too.

    Thanks

How about simply "Ты худела?" I would also suggest that your friend "accidentally" dump a pot of coffee on his lap. That would probably put an end to those questions.

UPDATE: Leof informs me that you should use "ты похудела" here. This is the perfective form, and that is preferable for your use here.
Заранее благодарю всех за исправление ошибок в моём русском.

I agree with Leof. Otherwise it would sound like "have you been losing weight?"

Precisely. I overlooked the aspect when refering to the dictionary...

Anybody mind translating those suggestions for me?

And while I can appreciate the suggestion she dump a pot of hot coffee in my lap, she usually settles for punching or kicking me, fortunately she's very little. Sometimes she goes for saying something offensive right back.

    Как насчет

Ешь больше. Ты так худая что ветер развевает тебя.
Какая разница, умереть богатым или бедным?

Какой толк от богатства если ты не счастлив.

(Если со словом "так", то - "Ты так худа..."

Впринципе можно. Но для меня лично не звучит

Sounds bad (in literal meaning :) whereas "ты прибавила в весе" sounds good.

Спасибо. Я прибавляю в весе, потому что слишком много ем и никогда не упражняюсь...

Не очень нормальное. Чаще говорят "потерять вес" или "похудеть".
