Another song - This one is in English to Russian

    Here is a another song.
This is an American pop song so No Doubt you native Russian speakers probably have not heard this song.
If there are any errors, can somebody correct them please?
    Thanks in advance

    Don't Speak

    You and me
    We used to be together
    Everyday together always
    I really feel
That I'm losing my best friend
    I can't believe
    This could be the end
It looks as though you're letting go
    And if it's real
Well I don't want to know

    (Refrain)
    Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
    So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts
    Don't speak
    I know what you're thinking
    I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts

    Our memories
    Well, they can be inviting
    But some are altogether
    Mighty frightening
As we die, both you and I
With my head in my hands
    I sit and cry

    (Refrain)

    It's all ending
I gotta stop pretending who we are...
You and me I can see us dying...are we?

What is below is sometimes more an interpretation than translation.

Better "своего", and it's still better to drop it here.

I think "could' expresses a possibility in the present here?

It's literal but doesn't really mean anything in this contekst. I'd say something like

    (Refrain)

I'd say мне не нужны твои объяснения or доводы

I'd say something like: Наши воспоминания....

    (Refrain)

    It's all ending
I gotta stop pretending who we are...
You and me I can see us dying...are we?

Thank you very much for your help!!!

I am suprised that this song is heard in Russia.
Do Russian's usually hear American music?
Us Americans never hear Russian music on the radio.

    One quick question.

Does not "обманывать" = "to cheat" or "to deceive"?

This might sound like a silly question, but when actually were you able to listen to western music? during perestroika? was it possible before? I really don't know !

One of the reasons is because the share of American music intended for the world market is much greater than the Russian one. Most Russian music is made for the inner market, not for exporting and if a singer or a band wants to be on the world market they usually have to sing in English.

    Yes, it does.

Yes, cheat, deceive.... Обманывать себя = deceive oneself, have illusions, pretend that something it true while it is not. It's used in a negative way of course. If it's like "let's pretend we are on the moon" = давайте представим себе, что (or как будто) мы на Луне.

If pretend = feign, it's притворяться. He pretends to be ill = он притворяется больным.

We began to hear more of it since the 60's after "Khrushchev's Thaw." Not that it was popularized by the state of course, it's just that "the iron curtain" was not so "iron" amymore. More information began to flow in, in legal and illegal ways. There began to be more exchange and travel since that time. Nothing like it is now, by no means, but still things got a bit more liberalized. Rock was looked askance at and not broadcast of course. Western, mostly European pop was, but very very little. But lots of Western music was always smuggled. In any case, whoever really wanted it, found a legal or illegal way to get it (contraband from sailors especially, or whoever regularly went ot the West in the line of duty). By the 80's lots of youth were listening to what they wanted on tape. Very little of it was shown on TV of course. Whenever it was, like in the progam "Мелодии и ритмы зарубежной эстрады", especially in the New Year night, for an hour and a half after 2 in the morning when kids were fast asleep and could not be exposed to the Western corruption (that was the hidden idea behind showing such a long program so late), we all got our taperecorders ready... The Soviet "absurd theater".
