В США доходы в 120 тыс. долларов в год считаются "низкой планкой среднего класса". Его верхняя граница 250-300 тыс. в год.

Ok. Show me the job list with $120K year payment. I guess you mean $120k income for average family befor tax. Guys from the US or another "western" countries, tell us the truth, what is a range of the average salary in a year??? I guess Ramil is too optimistic....

EDIT: Oops. Ramil, I've read your link:
36 % of those earning $15,000 a year call themselves middle class.
    49 % of those with incomes between $ 35,000 and $ 49,999 call
    themselves middle class
71 % of those with incomes above $ 75,000 call themselves middle class
(National Center for Opinion Research, 2000)"

EDIT: BTW, I didnt find are those incomes BEFORE or AFTER taxes?
My family income is about $11000-$12000 a year AFTER taxes, am I a middle class man in american conseption?
Gib immer 100% bei der Arbeit: 12% am Montag, 23% am Dienstag, 40% am Mittwoch, 20% am Donnerstag, 5% am Freitag ...

$80,000 to $120,000 a year?? It in not an average income in the USA. During the 1947-2004 period, an average family income increased from $21,771 in 1947, to $55,647 in 2000. Interestingly, it has declined since 2000, down to $54,061 in 2004. It never was even $80,000.
    http://www.epi.org/datazone/06/median_income.pdf

PS. This is national average income (gross). It varies from state to state, that is, some states (usually, in the South) have an average income below that value, and some - above it.
Well, I don't know what to say. I want to say thanks to the Academy, to Mama, to Papa and to my dog. I love you all.

I was sure for some reason that it was much higher. After I've looked through actual information I was really surprized. I wonder, where did those figures came from.

I thought you guys were richer than you actually are

I wonder also how do such things stand on in Europe, does anybody know, by the way?

That's entirely because all Americans are either lawers or pizza-guys. (Please, don't be offended it's just a joke I heard from one New-Yorker)

Much depends on where a person lives. Location is a significant factor when determining lifestyle.

In New York, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco... $30,000 is insufficient, close to poverty, except way out in the suburbs or country.

But I'm temporarily living in Topeka, Kansas, finishing advanced studies, and $30,000 is a good salary here. Middle to upper-middle class lifestyle.

Some places in the U.S. you can live like a king for $30,000. Other places, you couldn't afford a small apartment with that salary.

Madrid is a very expensive place to live, as is Barcelona. I was on a good salary, great times, and I love Madrid and Spain, but I was unable to save much money. I think this is common thru-out the EU.

    Google:

Germany, 2002, seems to be the latest official data:

Average family income in EURO and AFTER TAX, grouped by job branches:

    Freelancer: 51k
    Civil servant: 24k
    Employee: 24k
    Worker: 17k
    Pensioner: 16k
    Unemployed: 12k
    Welfare: 9k

If you get less than 938 EURO monthly, you are officially 'poor' in Germany (Data from 2003). In the EU, the 'poverty limit' (literally from German, don't know how it is called in English, it's NOT the 'minimum wage') are 60% of the average income.

You guys, are you talking about income BEFORE taxes or AFTER taxes??? In Russia we mostly say about income AFTER taxes. 24k after 30% tax becomes 16k - it is quite possible amount of money in Russia.

In America, it is gross income, before taxes.
