I've wondered that myself. I've seen negative number posts before too. It is a bug in phpbb. I'll have a look at it this morning.

As far as I can tell, you shouldn't have this problem anymore. I don't know what kind of or where's the mistake their programmers are making to get this math error, but I believe it's been eliminated now.
