It depends. Without any context it means nothing. If you go out and say "я скоро" (приду) it definitely means "i'll be right back". If you are doing something and you are asked "Have you finished yet?" "я скоро" (закончу) means i'll soon have it finished" and so on.

I "downloaded" (ripped off?) Pinsleur Russian Language course from a "shared music site", but the last time I gave the URL address to " the Administer of "Master Russian" was upset with me. Try to Google, or search for it... Limewire"

    Yah paneemayo Alex...

I didn't mean at all that she doesn't want to be Russian. We are going to do everything we can to keep her culture important to her...I have been studying Russian traditions and language for months....I never want her to forget her country. I feel like our family has become a bit more Russian as she becomes a little more American, and I am very proud.

Alex, what do you mean 'has no parents'? When I was in an orphange, I had parents(My first parents), they just weren't with me.

It is good, that you will keep her Russian culture close to her. My sister though, when she was adopted from Ukraine at age 8(along with me and another sister) wanted to forget everything and just be American and she is still like that. She never wants to relearn Russian or know abut our culture. I think it is too painful for her but I'm not sure. Everyone is different.

I wish you the best of luck, RuskiMomma.

Out of curiosity, how long has she been in an orphanage?

It's not hard to understand. Normal parents do not let their children to live in orphanage. Having parents that see nothing wrong in that is like having no parents at all.

RUSKYMOMMA, do not take it as offence. I know that you have good intentions. My post came from bitter feeling that state and society here do not do enough to make these children happy in their own country, where they belong.

Olyah has been in an orphanage since she was 4....she is now 12. She has been at a very good boarding school since she was 7....she said she has no recollection of her parents.

    Alex,

I understand what you are feeling 100%....commitment to your country....but I have to let you know that there are soooo many parents whose lives have been touched by your wonderful little Russian citizens. Many are like me and are very dedicated to keeping their love for their country alive and a part of their current family....

I understand too like Yevengi (Was that your name??? oh gosh, I forget!! The poster before Alex) said, that sometimes the children who are adopted have sad feelings about Russia because of something that happened to them....that is unfortunate, but happens often. It is something that also happens in America as well as other countries also....just not Russia.

In the end one can only do what one think is the most "good" thing.

It is very common for immigrants to America to take an English language name or to use the English translation/pronunciation of their birth name. I also use the Russian pronunciation of my (Latin) name when in Russia because it is just easier for everybody.

    TATY,

only because she asked to have one. Like I said, I would have been happy calling her Olyah.

Is it just me or has this thread taken a weird turn??

Russkymomma, one last thought - while Pinsleur can be one good teaching tool, do not soley rely upon it. Be sure that you use a dictionary and other methods when teaching yourself the Russian language. Often, when I listen to Pinsleur, I miss or don't hear some letters/sounds. It's important for you to use many different resources! Learn to type in Cryillic!
желаю вам удачи и на благословит тебя Бог, Гари
