Greetings! (And trying to find a book...)

    Greetings, all!

This is my first post here, but I've been checking the board out for the past few days to get a feel for it.

I studied Russian several years ago in college, but have forgotten most of what I used to know, so I'm trying to get back into it. I was also a seminarian at a Russian Orthodox theological seminary, so Russian was kind of important there, too.

Anyway, one of my pastimes is designing computer fonts, and I've done a couple of rather ornamental Cyrillic fonts based on really old-fashioned iconographic and display styles.

What I'm looking for, though, is one of those books you can sometimes find in graphic arts stores that display a hundred or more different "writing styles" of alphabets for... well, graphic display, sign work, and art projects.

Does anyone know what these are called in Russian, and where I could get one?

I'd appreciate any help in directing me to one of these.

In the meantime, it's a great forum here, and I'm looking forward to spending inordinate amounts of time here trying to get my Russian back.

    Tosha

    Welcome to MR!

I'm sorry but I can't answer the question, hopefully someone else can.

The board = the forum (also known as a "message board").
"To get a feel for smth" = to get develop a better understanding of smth or to gain the necessary experience to do smth (this is a pretty common phrase in English, so it's a good one to know!)
    К примеру:

"It took Jim a few weeks to get a feel for his new job, but once he did, he was one of the top salesmen."

"Motorcycle repair is very, very difficult to master since there's no real formula for doing it, it's more like an art -- it's just something you have to get a feel for."

Can I just be like everybody else here and say:
    a) this is awesome.
    b) I can't help you. It's really strange that you haven't gotten an answer to this -- this forum almost ALWAYS produces answers, so be patient...)

Thanks for all those words of welcome!

Wow... I really feel the love. I think I'm going to like it here.

By the way, just for the record, these are the types of books I'm looking for:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486246957/
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486286967/

Which leads me to think that the books I'm looking for will have something about azbuki in the title...

This is kind of a stretch (but it's free!). Look at the link below, as it seems to have a bunch of different Russian fonts (along with other pictures and other languages). I don't know how useful it is to you, but it's something that might give you some ideas:
