Does anyone know a good program for converting .vob to .avi and shrinking the files?

Can't remember which one I ended up using. AVS is a good brand though.

AVS Video Tools
Magic Video Converter
Star Video Converter
WinAVI Video Converter
Imtoo

For beginners I recommend to use "Auto Gordian Knot" (converts video to DivX or XviD and audio to mp3, these formats are very old).

For experts - "MeGUI" (converts video to H264 and audio to AAC, best choice, but difficult for beginners).

Both programms are freeware. Also visit http://www.doom9.org

I installed FormatFactory recently. It's free and, by the look of it, can convert anything to almost anything. But I haven't had an opportunity to try it on vobs yet.

I always used VirtualDub.

VirtualDub can't handle .vob, can it? I mean, without supplementary programs.

I have different versions of it. Well, VirtualDub can't, but VirtualDubMod can.

Was using the regular VirtualDub which wasn't doing the trick.

I have is Pinnacle Studio. Problems are not present. And vob converts and inside of video it is possible to do very much much.
