    It's called черный хлеб -- "black bread" -- although it's actually a light-brown color. And by many accounts, it's nearly impossible to reproduce in your own kitchen (at least here in America)...

    I don't agree with the "mostly in French Fry form" -- I think potatoes are equally popular here baked "in their jackets", mashed, and as hash browns.
