For the life of me I can't seem to get it to sound right.. :/
"r" по-французски, буква похожа на "х" по-русский?
French "r" doesn't sound like ours, nor Spanish, nor Russian, nor German, and I don't have a problem with any of those "r"'s.

What I know for sure is that French [r] is pronounced in a different way, not like Russian [х].Originally Posted by Marlow
Буква (a letter) is a written or printed sign, something that you hear/pronounce is called звук (a sound).
согласный (звук) - a consonant, a consonant sound
гласный (звук) - a vowel, a vowel sound

I'd say the French R sounds close to the German one. The one pronounced at the beginning or in the middle of a word, not at the end. Also the French R tend to sound differently (soft or not) depending on several reasons. For example whether you want to amplify it or not, where it's located in a word, and what vowel or other consonnant is/are next to it or pronounced with it.
Do not try to imitate the pronunciation of some singers such as Edith Piaf or Jacques Brel because nobody speaks like that.
De gustibus et coloribus non disputandum.
Just pronounce German "r" then. They're almost identical to me.Originally Posted by Marlow
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
