    Я болею за...

Как сказать по-английски "я болею за такую-то команду"?
Я знаю, есть вариант "I'm a fan of...."
Но если я не фан, а просто болею в конкретном матче за одну из команд? Или болею за нее на чемпионате мира?

Ну как раз что касается Локо, то тут конструкция "I'm a fan of..." подходит

    I'm rooting for Portugal.

    I support Portugal.

    I'm backing Portugal.

    I'm (all) for Portugal.

Or another common thing is simply to say:

    I want Portugal to win.

Are there any shades of meaning between those expressions?

The first one and the fourth one are slightely less formal, but other than there is no difference as far as I am aware.

EDIT: Actually "support" is more general than "to root for/back". "Support" is more for a team you always support and is closer to "I am a fan of", whereas "too root/back" is better for a specific game or tournament.

А backing не относится к ситуации, когда люди приходят поддержать своих друзей и т. п., то есть не в спортивном контексте?

It also means that, but in sport it means "to support (a team)".

In football (Soccer for Americans), you say "I support Ukraine".

"I'm a fan of Ukraine" has a slightly different meaning.

When one talks about their team one says: "I support X"

I would say that there is a slight difference in some instances, but not the one you're identifying, as far as I can tell. My $.02:
I'm a fan of X.=I hope team X wins its games, etc.
I support X. = I not only am a fan of X, but I buy tickets to their games, jerseys, write letters to the sports editor, etc.

I still think you can say either statement and mean either thing -- it's just that to me, these are the preferable variants.

    It's opposite in Russian

    Я фанат Х = I support X
    Я болею за Х = I'm a fan of X
