    The band has been here [twice, many times, every year since 1922]
    The band was here last year [once]

    You can also say:

    The band stopped by recently
    The band recently came and held a concert
    The band was recently here
    etc.

    It depends what you mean by к нам though.

    Меня, помню, учили, что с recently и lately нужно употреблять Present Perfect.

    По-моему, с lately только можно употреблять Present Perfect or Present Perfect Progressive (я не знаю, если это правильное название этого времени):

    He has played football a lot lately.
    He has been playing football a lot lately.

    Но, я не эксперт по английской грамматике.

    (я не знаю, правильное ли это название этого времени):
    В таких предложениях, как I don't know if it is right и ему подобным if не может переводиться как "если". Может как "ли", ещё можно было сказать "правильное это название, или нет".
    Но_я не эксперт по английской грамматике.
