As we say in America: win of you - lose of you

I've seen a film about the making of "The Perfume" movie, and there is an episode, a working moment of a shoot, where Dustin Hoffman says "As we say in America: win of you - lose of you". After these words everyone laugh. What do they mean? Is it a proverb?

P.S. I was trying to say "рабочий момент съемок" in English, and I'm not sure that "working moment" is ok... Is there some common expression for "рабочий момент" in English?
P.P.S. Please correct my other mistakes!

    *documentary is closer.
**Not sure what you meant by episode here.

To answer the question - I've never heard the phrase before. I have heard "You win some, you lose some" which makes sense.

P.S. The movie is called "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer," which is why you don't say "The Perfume."

"Win" and "Lose" take direct objects and therefore can't be proceeded by "of", you must have misheard.

Unless he was joking and speaking in broken English.

    Oh...

    Working moment of a shot.

A shoot is the entire thing...a movie shoot. A shot is just one piece of a shoot. For example, each camera angle is a different shot.

Working moment, sounds weird, but it fits (I've heard it on set before).

Overall, it may be better to say:

I saw a documentary on the making of the movie "Perfume" and there's a shot of Dustin Hoffman saying, "...."

    OR...

There's an outtake of Dustin Hoffman saying...

    OR, simply...

While they were shooting, Dustin Hoffman said...

(Ask if you need me to clarify each correction here.)

Yes, I knew that, by I thought one might call it just "Perfume". Or was I wrong just because I used "the"? In Russian, the full name of the movie is "Парфюмер: история одного убийцы", but we can call it just briefly "Парфюмер".

    Here's this moment:

    Have I misheard it?

I still think I meant "shoot"... Well, in Russian it's рабочий момент съёмок. And съёмки is an entire thing...

    Oh!

He says "Win a few, lose a few" - same idea of "win some, lose some" - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

And it looks like he did it while they were shooting.

I guess you could say a working moment on the shoot - but it would be better to say "While they were shooting" or, even better, "While they were taking a break from shooting..."

    Sorry, another reply.

Working moment on the shoot doesn't sound great either.

Working is a film industry term, but I think a "moment of work" makes more sense in this instance.

Now that I think about it, maybe working moment of a shoot is better to say...but it sounds odd.

Just say "While they were shooting."

--> I saw a documentary on the film "Perfume" and while they were shooting Dustin Hoffman said, "As we say in America, 'win a few, lose a few.'"

Just say "While they were shooting."
Actually we use very often the expression "рабочий момент" in Russian, in very different contexts. And not only about movie shooting at all.
For example, some debate / dispute also can be "рабочий момент". If two architects are building a house, and they have defferent ideas about the house's roof and its colour - their debate is "рабочий момент". Well, I don't know, maybe it should be used some expression with the word "draft" here... Yes, by the way, in Russian, one can say sometimes "черновой момент" instead of "рабочий момент".
Also: рабочий вариант = черновой вариант.

Ah, OK! That's interesting. I'm not sure if we have something similar in English.

I think we would just call that a "difference of opinion."

Перевод слова «момент» почти никогда не - moment. Например.
