    "slash" stories

Can anybody explain me why do the fiction stories about homosexual relations (between Gandalf and Frodo for example) are called "slash"?
And what are the "heterosexual" fanfics? "Het" stories?

The mere idea of this kind of stories seems QUITE QUEER for me, but it is another question.

Where have you seen these stories? I have never heard of stories like this. Perhaps it is a British thing?

    For example:
    http://baranduin.us/gandalf/fics.htm

There are a lot of them, you just need type "slash story" in search engine or something like this. I found it just accidentally.

My friend John who knows everything suggests that it's called "slash" because people tend to refer to stories as, say, "a Gandalf/Frodo fic" or "a Kirk/Spock fic," etc., and the "/" is, of course, a slash.

Fan fiction is always like that, fans make up stories about characters(80% of the time some kind of romance goes on, whether heterosexual or homosexual) I remember my younger brother came across a bunch of X-rated Harry Potter slash stories...amazing how people can twist a childrens story. Harry and all of his teachers Lindzi I think your friend was right, thats what I always figured the slash was about.

Well, I think you are quite right with this "slash" sign (/).
Although it is very amazing indeed how people can twist any story .
I only was searching for "Lord of the Ring" stuff, but found this...

Ooh! Perhaps I should write a Russian Pravit/Tambakis story.

It didn't quite take me two days to realize that these are laughable stories.

I got it. Perhaps I should follow an example of those brave heroes, Pravit, carpediem and Emkalin, who write stories in Russian. I should try and write a story "in English", and this will be the "slash" story of Gandalf, I decided it already. So be on your guard!

Well, it won't be an easy task (and may be not very quick one).

I think this is a natural way of putting it down. Names shouldn't contain all those numbers, we are not droids ater all.
