Thread: feel myself and baser (basser?)

I have two questions:

1) Does 'feel myself' mean 'to masturbate'. The problem is it's a very common mistake that Russians make when saying: "I feel myself bad today" instead of saying 'i feel bad'.

2) There's a job in US which somebody told me is called 'basser' and means helping waiters at the restaurant. But i think it must be either 'busboy' or something different.

1. You don't say "feel myself" when you are expressing it like in Russian, but rather say "I don't feel so good today", "I feel bad".
If you want to put it in terms of masturbation. You would say "I like to play with myself". Feeling on oneself is a dying term, that no one really uses anymore. At least where I live no one uses it anymore. You are better off with "playing with myself", "playing with yourself", etc.

2. I never heard of "basser". But yes there is something called a "bus boy". Which he deals with the dishes on the table and some other stuff. I never done this as a job. So, I don't know what else they do.

If you are having a bad day, say you are depressed or coming down with a cold, you could say, "I just don't feel myself today" and that would be just fine.

As for the "basser" as ZekeComa mentioned, there is the term busboy or maybe busser. A busboy is the next lowest job on the totem pole of jobs in the restaurant to a dishwasher. They clear and set the tables, maybe get water and bread or a clean utensil of the customer dropped theirs. They work for a portion of the waiter's tips.

In some restaurants, there is also a Food Runner. Their job is to ONLY take food from the kitchen to the table. They too work on a portion of tips from the waiter.

Depending on which region you're in, "feeling yourself" can be equivalent to touching yourself in any sense, either that be erotic or not; however, it is not directly related to masturbation. But to say that "feeling yourself" does not give the connotation of any self-induced erotic pleasure would to incorrect.

For example, if you were stroking your arm out of habit, an English speaker may say with a specific tone to stop feeling yourself. What the speaker meant is found in his/her voice inflection, but it is often presumed that the person felt uncomfortable as he/she saw your behavior to be sexual in nature -- when it's possibly not sexual.

A more recognized phrase, when referring to the same implications, would be "touching yourself," which is what more English may say rather than the prior. The reason is that the word "touch" holds a more clear understanding -- while "feeling" has more definitions but is also inter-changeable with the word "touch." So you're less likely to hear people tell you to stop "feeling yourself" and more likely to hear them saying, "Stop touching yourself."
