I don't think that the idea of using present tense instead of past tense in order to make a story more dramatic is so new. In classical Latin it was called 'Praesens historicum' and it does exist in many modern European languages, including Russian and English, from the times when they started to be languages as such.

its "I (i) <3 (heart) you" I heart you, you've seen the signs that say "i love you" but they throw a heart in there instead of the word love.
