Я так понимаю, что парамедики - это те, кто первую помощь оказывают, вроде нашей скорой помощи. А медики - более широкое понятие. Например, уролог, принимающий в кабинете, не парамедик.

The prefix para- in English is often used with professions to mean that the person requires further training, or is in a subsidary role.

A paramedic is therefore someone less trained than a medic (doctor), acts in a subsidary role.

Paramedics are the people in ambulances.

Medic is only rarely used to refer to doctors. Usually it refers to emergency medical personnel in the army.

Paramedics, as TATY said, receive only emergency medical training. They help people in car accidents, etc., and take them to a hospital in an ambulance.

A similar term is paralegal. This is a person who assists a lawyer but does not have full training as a lawyer.
