    I love animals

I love animals? Или I like animals?
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

Generally, "I love animals." But if someone wants to specify that they like rather than love animals he'll say, "I like animals." If you say "I like animals there's usually some sort of negative conotation:
I like animals, as long as they're outside.
I like animals, it's just that they're so dirty.

I disagree. To me "I like animals" sounds like a perfectly normal way to say it, whereas "I love animals" sounds childishly over-enthusiastic (or creepy ).

Both are fine. If someone wants, the two can be contrasted: "I like animals, but my sister just loves them." In other words "love" is more enthusiastic than "like".

    Lions should live in nature!
In the 1980s, the family of the talented Baku architect Lev Berberov got a lion cub called King. He was given the best care and he grew into a mature lion. He starred in the popular Soviet movie The Adventures of Italians in Russia, but his career was cut short when he was shot by a militia officer, who thought the animal was aggressive. Berberov died six months after his pet and never finished a book on his experiment to tame the animal. Shortly afterward his widow Nina and children Roman and Eve got another lion cub. The domesticated lion fatally mauled Roman and seriously injured the mother. The lion was later shot by the militia.
