can I take it like: после её возвращения в Шотландию - теперь уже протестантскую страну.?

Of great beauty, its courtyard is the place of...
is it close to: Замечательный по красоте, его внутренний двор был местом...?

I ofted encouter such words:
..., the legend has it,... and ..., it is said,...
I have a version for the first one:
..., по легенде,... (, согласно легенде,)
and what does the second mean?

Why not simply 'очень красивый'?

The origin phrase was:
A view from above of the ruins of the abbey that, legend has it, was founded in 1128 by David I.
Here is how I featured that:
Вид сверху на руины аббатства, которое, согласно легенде, было основано в 1128 Давидом Первым.

I understood with it is said, then am I right about it is thought reading that like предпологают, как предпологают, как думают?
I can't find where I read those last two, but I met it frequently here and there.

As Rtyom has already mentioned,

-это просто безличная конструкция: говорится, говорят.

As for 'it is thought', I'd in major cases translate it as 'считается'. Depends on the context, though

I would translate "It is said" as "Говорят". This is a common expression in literature, film, speeches, etc.; when someone is trying to make an "intellectual" statement; but it is not used colloquially. However, you would hear "it's said" much more often in common spoken English because it does not sound so "pompous" and has a slightly different connotation/ meaning.
