Thread: Easy sentence

You would have me go to war.
Plz, help to translate this very simple sentence. I can't choose between plenty of variants, such as:
Ты хотел бы, чтобы я отправился на войну.
Ты отправляешь меня на войну.
etc

It is probably somewhere between

Ты отправлял бы меня на войну?

and

Ты хотел бы, чтобы я отправился на войну?

but neither of them are perfect. The person being spoken to does not necessarily want the speaker to go to war, and they do not have the power to send the speaker to war, but they believe that it would be the correct course of action should the speaker reach that conclusion themselves. Sort of.

P'raps...

Ты думаешь, что я должен отправлять себя на войну?

... is closer. It might sound a bit strained though.

(note 1: I've no idea whether отправлять is the correct translation of 'send' in this context, I just used it 'cos you did)

(note 2: why is it на войну in this context and в войну in others I've read?)

1. Perhaps the right word is "начать", but I'm not sure. "Go" has so many meanings.
2. I think "в войну" would be "during the war".

Ты хочешь, чтобы я пошел на войну - has the gist of it, I think
