Wednesday, all the hip and cool people are writing without hyphens inserted between every word. I suggest you join in the trend if you don't want to look like a total lamer, dude.

[quote="joysof"][quote="JB"]what I see in Moscow (it happens in Paris and London too, although rather more discreetly) is racial profiling and it isn't acceptable. [quote]

Hah funny you should mention that. I'm a 6'4" tall white male and I am profiled against in France. Everytime I enter the country be it by train or by airplane I am stopped for a "random" check. This has happened since I was 13. I am now 25.

you should see some of the text messages that I get here in china from my students...

    sometimes-they-like-to-write-with-hyphens-

    and.sometimes.they.like.to.write.with.periods.

    andamazinglytheysometimesthinkthatitsokaytowritewi thoutspaces

I've actually seen them write sentences without spaces in their notebooks.

Which leads to one conclusion...China is crazy...

It will cost you the same as one of those visa services but you will get a lot more (visa + Russian lessons) for your money. They also do all of the registration and save you a lot of hassel and wasted time. DO NOT attempt to go to OVIR and register by yourself. You will be frustrated, angry and never get registered ( which can create a world of problems). DO stay at the school's dorm or apartment housing. There is a new law in Russia that you MUST have your landlord sign you in at a totally different office before you can register. If you go to a school you don't have to deal with any of these problems. You just relax and have fun. The school I go to is inexpensive and even has work/study options.
Another option is to go through a travel agency and get a 30 day tourist visa. But you can only stay at and be registered by a hotel. This will cost a lot more than a school and will be a lot less fun. A school is a great place to make friends and have a much better experience.
I was interested in doing a work/language study in Moscow, and am having a bit of difficulty getting started. Can you recomend the school you are currently attending?

See the website for Language Link in Moscow in my previous post. I did a year and a half of classes with them and found them to be honest and reliable along with providing a good program. My girlfriend did a work/study program there and was happy with her experience also. I don't go there now because I live 2 hours north of Moscow, but would go again if I had the time and lived closer.
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
