    спид и вич

я пишу эссе о спиде в России. Вы можете помочь мне? (My Russian isn't that good, but I thought I'd try anyway.)

I'm looking for some information from a Russian perspective about HIV/AIDS in Russia. Are any of you involved in any volunteer work or have a friend who is HIV+? What are the general attitudes towards people living with HIV? Anything you can give me will be really helpful. Большое спасибо!

Try to google HIV in Russia - there should be lots of useful resourses there.

If you wish to know the general attitude to people with HIV you could stand the question dirrectly to the Russians on the forum - ask what's your own attitude towards people with HIV?
    Я так думаю.

I've already done a lot of research on the topic, but thanks for taking the time to reply. (Google is my homepage.) I was just hoping for some information that I couldn't get through looking in a scholarly journal or article. I thought it might be helpful to post my question here. You said I should ask the Russians on the forum directly? Don't I just put my question here or is somewhere else better?

Both words are acronimes and must be capitalised:

СПИД: Синдром Приобретенного Иммунного Дефицита (== AIDS)
ВИЧ: Вирус Иммунодефицита Человека (== HIV)

Ask questions here -- why not?

The Star Channel (TV) in Moscow run frequent ads about protecting yourself against AIDS. The ads are very modern and well done.
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.

You're absolutely right. Thanks for reminding me. I'm so used to seeing it in English that when I switch it over, I don't necessary check.

Was there a time when testing for HIV/AIDS was mandatory? How did people respond to that?

I wish I could watch them. But you reminded me about YouTube, so I looked there and they actually have some videos! Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=hiv+russia
