    Pre-revolution Russian Empire in colours.

The Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii Collection features color photographic surveys of the vast Russian Empire made between ca. 1905 and 1915.

I have seen them before. It's really amazing colour photo technology. Do you know, are there projections only or Prokudin could make colour prints.

"We know that Prokudin-Gorskii intended his photographic images to be viewed in color because he developed an ingenious photographic technique in order for these images to be captured in black and white on glass plate negatives, using red, green and blue filters. He then presented these images in color in slide lectures using a light-projection system [right] involving the same three filters."

"S.M.Prokudin-Gorsky has made at least 3500 triple negatives registering on a single glass plate three separate black and white images taken through the blue, green and red filters. Each negative is a triple black and white image. Although from some of the negatives Prokudin-Gorsky did make carbro color prints or slides, the author was never able to see his entire collection in color."

I just have find it and I am amazed too.

Here are restored photos (331 out of 1,902):

Apparently, he did prints but what does 'carbro' mean? May it's 'carbo'... Anyway it's great.

Also I saw the same time pictures of Riga. May be it was the same author.
