    a confusing name

    Once my ex-russian teacher gave one of my classmate a name Файна.
    Но мой present teacher said it's Фаина
    who is right?

    I stayed at an old woman's flat in Russia called Фаина. It is a Tatar name.

    But you should have known the answer to this question before you even posted; the teacher giving you grades is ALWAYS right.

    My friend's grandmother's name is Фаина. I didn't know it was Tatar though, that's interesting.

    It's ancient-Russian name. Not Tatar

    Файна - can be intentionaly used as a pun (игра слов).

    There is Ukranian/Belorussian/Polish adjective файна (feminine gender).

    lovely, charming, fine.


    Ukranian:
    Файна дівчина - beautiful girl.
    Polish:
    Faina dziewczyna

    Ukranian:

    So english word fine and ukrainian файна are not just sound the same
