What are come nicknames for some of the shorter Russian names, like Игорь, Анна, Петр, Зоя, Денис, Эмма? I've never really heard of nicknames for any of these names.

Игорь- I've got a friend named Igor. We used to call him: Игарон (most common), Гарыныч - (the funniest one)
Анна - Анька, Анюха, Анютка, Анюта, Анка (usually пулеметчица )
Петр - usually called as Петька, Петя, Петух (when you're angry with him)
Зоя - Зойка
Денис - the most common is Диса.
Эмма- never heard

I've heard Эмма. The name is short by itself. It might have a nickname like Эммачка. But if you want to make it funny then make it really long - Эммануэль

For the names Игор, there is a kid in my vollyball class named игор, and the russian kids call him Тайка "Taika". there is also obviously Игорёк ~~ !!

Pretty odd. The word тайка doesn't have anything to do with Igor. The words that occur to me hearing this Taika are: Тайга, Дай ка!

As for my name I remember myself be called like: Витёк, Витька, Витос (apparently somehow connected with Портос, Атос and Co from Musketeer ) Recently a friend of mine called me Витас - as clear as a daylight like a russian singer

As for my name (Russian variant is Елена), many people named me: Алёнка, Ленок, Ленчик. But it's everyday occurrence. Only one my friend was an original. He called me "Ленычара"

Нет. Почему же? Таисию всегда называют Тайкой... Нормальное русское имя.

Таисия слышал только как Тася, Таська , хотя кто знает?!

Hmm, that's weird. To me Тайка sounds very un-Russian (more like Finnish or Karelian, though in that case it should be more like Taikkaaaaaa ), but who knows... The only nickname for Таися I know is Тася. Anyway, what connection could there possibly be between Тайка and Игорь ???

Ну дык я ж не спорю. Я просто сказал, что для моего русского уха сочетание звуков "тайка" звучит непорусски. (Это не значит, однако, что это не русское имя, для меня многие слова звучат "нескладно", причем почему объяснить не могу, чисто на уровне ощущений). Ну да ладно, шут с ним, но каким образом связаны Игорь и Тайка???

Now, how's that possible??? The kid's name isn't Тая , it's Игорь. How come they call him Taika then

So what? The nickname may be of any kind. It depends of how other kids wanted to call him and not on what his real name is. For example, one boy at my school was Валера. And his nickname was Кинг-Конг. Another guy at the university was Дмитрий and his nickname was Добрейший, Суицид or Димка-Капитан.

Yes, these are all nicknames, but they most commanly one is 'Ленa' .


And 'Алёнка', is mostly used for the name 'Алёна'.

And 'Алёнка', is mostly used for the name 'Алёна'.

But isn't Алёна a form of Елена originally? Though now it's pretty much treated as a separate name.
