Well, double families may exist anyway. I knew a guy who was Спасов-Задорожный.
The tradition of giving double names to the children still remains in catholic families. The catholisism is not spread in Russia, but there are many catholics in the Wesern parts of Ucraina and Belarus. I know such families, where the girl has two names in the passport: one is the "public" name, for the school and friends, the other is the "family name". Only close relatives call her with this name. (I've never heard about boys with two names, can't imagine why).
Double surnames were used, although not widely, among the nobilty of Russian Empiry... And at our days, as far as I know, registering the marriage, one can take a double surname, combining the wife's and the husband's surnames... I'm not sure, but I've heard about that somewhere.
And, personally, I've met people with double surnames. It's not common, but neither it's something strange.
In my rather limited experience people with double-barrelled surnames in this country tend to be arty-f@rty and pretentiously upper-crust (you don't normally meet a plumber called Mikhail Alekseyevich Ivanov-Petrov, it's usually some pop-eyed bohemian @@@@...). Double-barrelled names I have never heard of.Originally Posted by змма

Originally Posted by Victor

Originally Posted by garmonistka

_sh_b.html:
