I think what she means by a "russian name" is the diminutive.

As far as I know most of russian names have greek or scandinavian origin. Elena is a greek name, just remember Troya )) Short russian form is Lena. I think name Ksenia have ansient slav roots, but I can mistake. I know several Ksenias and friends call then "Ksyusha", "Ksyuha" or simple "Ksyu". It's also short forms for ukrainian name "Oksana"
Please, correct my mistakes, except for the cases I misspell something on purpose!

Nah, Ksenia is Greek too, it means "foreigner". Think "xenon"

Also Jewish (nearly all biblical names, i.e. Mariya, Masha), Arab (Take mine for example) or Latin (Roman). There are even a couple of originally slavic names (Vladimir, Vsevolod)

    "Oksana" also means "Xenia".
    So diminutives are the same.

Xenia means hospitable (female) in Greek.

The exact meaning of Helene is disputable, the most possible is that it means "Sunny day" in a very early Greek dialect. Obviously it has the same root with the word Hellas (land of the Sun/enlighted land).
