Thread: Sending Texts (SMSs) *in* Russia

As on O2 user I've had no problems sending and receiving SMS messages from UK to Russia but when I was in Russia I had problems. I couldn't communicate at all with SMS. I tried various networks: Beeline, MTS etc but no joy. I also tried various international codes and dropping 0's - all no good.

Can anyone advise on what I'm doing wrong?

If you have a russian sim-card (beeline, mts, megafon, indigo etc) you type the number in the pattern "+79602020913", +7 means Russia, also you can use "8" instead of "+7", they're the same.

+7 (country code) 960 (operator's code) 2020913 (cell phone number)

And of course your cell must be of GSM standard.

Have you changed your service-centre number in SMS settings?

It may be your own service that's the problem - I suppose that, like evrywhere, there are agreements between providers and that maybe yours doesn't have the necessary agreements with the Russian providers?

I'm just back from SPB, and I was happily sms'ing back and forth (and that's even on the prepaid card system), both on Beeline and on MTS, whereas other people in the group had no luck at all, even though they were on a subscription system (which is more expensive).... but we had different providers.....

Try getting a simcard from another provider next time, it may just work.

I have MTC and have no trouble sending SMS to USA. But the key is that both sender and receiver must have tri band cell phones.

I don't......... I don't even have two band..... just the one little band

It may be so for the US, but within Europe, I've never heard of that.....
I think JJ's right, it's a provider thing.....
