Too much censorship on the forums?

I've noticed lately that the level of censorship on this forum has greatly increased.

Firstly I don't like the way swear words are automatically blanked out.

Shіt is just a word. No one is going to be offended reading it, and 99% of the English speakers on this forum probably use it regularly.

Crap is NOT A SWEAR WORD. You can say it on TV at like 6pm!

If there is a heated debate or argument, so what if one poster want to calls another an idiot, or a fool or whatever? If anything it just shows the immaturity of the poster who has to resort to name calling.

Although we don't show it a lot of the time, most of us here are adults, and those who are not are mature enough to deal with a couple of little bad words or a few insults thrown around. In the real world we hear much worse every day.

No, I like it to be civil. Insults are useless, base and foolish. As you said, we are adults and not schoolchildren. Let's behave like adults.

I think that Master Russian is quite a bit milder than it was when i first came here. I remember, back then, at least one member posting a comment stating that MR was much more unmoderated and wilder than most other boards and everyone seemed to be fine with it that way. Remember how wild it was when Mike was a Moderator?
I think the board has become a little boring lately.

So I agree with TATY. I think that since MR is about language we should be able to use a certain amount vocabulary that is considered by SOME to be vulgar, both in Russian and English. After all, how are we going to learn the proper use of these words safely if we can't do it here?
And we DO need to know these words!!

I am considering introducton of a slang section on the forum but I would still moderate the use of obscenities in general posts not related to slang.

I don't have a problem with stopping vulgar squabbles, just with filtering what are essentially random words. I hate that stuff. Wanna say no to saying "f you f'er, you mother is a <whatever>. Fine. Legitimate. Understandable. Reasonable. But messing with my ability to say кrap? You're infringing my constitutional right. Or not. But you get my point.

And let's not forget that what may be considered inappropriate is some English cultures is perfectly normal in others and therefore bringing the question, "who is going to make that judgment since we are from a variety of backgrounds here?" We need a fairly open forum and not a "one size fits all" attitude, especially if it is the narrow minded American version of "one size fits all".

Well the word crap and other sensored words are actually automatic features of the forum. There is no editing invloved.

I absolutely agree with Taty, I find it a little bit ridicilous that words like "idiot" are being censored - after all it's not like we're kids in here. I can understand censoring really offensive phrases, but the way it is now, I think it's taking it to the extremes, which is never good.

That will be good innovation which was needed shit,crap and some words like that shouldn't be regarded as a swear that's normal I also think there has been too much censorship on the forum lately,it should be changed and some words I mentioned above should be free to use.

It all depends on the specfic understanding of swearinf in different cultures. Maybe Russians are more sensitive to it. Hence, the censorship is.

I don't see why, even if the majority here wanted it, we should "uncensor" swear words, just because some people think it's ok. There should be respect for others, be it their religion, sexual orientation, race, or sensitivity to swear words.

I agree with TATY. The last time I encountered such excessive censorship was in primary school. I don't think real swear words should be allowed (f*ck etc) or obscene language, but censoring "idiot" is ridiculous.

LOL! How can something this mild be offensive to anyone? I could have said it in primary school and no one would have blinked. Besides, if you're willing to give some kind of reasonable explanation for why you feel that way as that person did I think it is justified, i.e if it's not a one word response.
