this site never used to have much spam but now it's getting pretty common, a couple of times a week. Any reason?
thanks

Кому - нары, кому - Канары.
Also strange people who rant about nonsense and ruin otherwise interesting discussions.
I.e. for instance "Krupskaya's" incoherent and very irrelevant rants, in absolutely apalling English... He is clearly not interested in learning Russian or understanding modern Russia. Any new user seeing his ramblings is likely to leave the forum and never come back!
Maybe there should be some kind of very basic IQ test or common knowledge quiz of joining. I am not not entirely joking...
ps - any rant from me is obviously not a rant at all, and well worth reading....
We regret that the number of spam messages has increased. We are going to install some modifications to the forum or perhaps change the forum engine to fight all these spammers.

I have added post approval for all new users. They will be marked in green on the forums.
This means all newly registered users (including spammers) won't have their posts visible until moderators make sure that they are legitimate users. When a users is checked his/her posts will not require approval anymore. This will eliminate all the spam from the forums.

This is a really reliable solution. But it can stop new people from registering if they need to wait maybe a day before ask maybe a single question. Maybe it is better to show the very first post of a new user anyway. But all other posts should be shown after the approval.Originally Posted by MasterAdmin
