    2010 New Forum Design

The great September revolution, which was inspired and talked about so long, has done.

    Happy new forum design!

Of course we need some time to get used to the new design. If we pour a shower of suggestions to our generous MasterAdmin he'll drown as the Titanic. But anyway we will have some suggestions how to improve the new design. So this thread is started to collect all the proposals:

    • Avatars don’t support a transparent background of "gif" and "png". It would nice if they do.

    • Date format "mm-dd-yyyy" is a little bit confusing for Russians.
It would be better if the date format will be as like as in the old design:
Month dd, yyyy (Sep 16, 2010)
      or yyyy-mm-dd (2010-09-16)

When a user is not logged in and acts as a guest clicking to "What's New?" leads to the list of new posts aged one day.
But when you've logged in and act as a user clicking to the same button "What's New?" leads to the lists of posts appeared only after your login time and there is no way get the list of the last day's posts.

By the way, is it possible to get the list of last week's posts like it was in the old forum with "active topics" link. (Plea-ea-ea-ease!)

Have you noticed Thread Display Options in the bottom of each forum?
When you visit a forum you can view the topics from the last day, week, month, year, etc.
You can set it as a default in the Settings -> General Settings -> Thread Display Options (Default Thread Age Cut Off)

There's also a "New Posts" button which gives you a list of posts written after you last read the forum.

I like the new forum, especially because it now uses the same forum software as the German Language forum where I am admin... And I know it is a pain to adjust sometimes with its huge number of settings distributed all over the admin control panel.
    Спасибо за исправления!

Yeah, I've just checked it. BUT it works only within a selected forum section. There are still no any way to get the last post's list for all the MasterRussian forums in a row as it was with the old forum. Now everyone caused to dig every forum's section (20 or 30?) manually and select last posts within each section.

The "New Posts" button has the same link as "What's New?" so the result is the same.

What's the link to your forum? I'd like to take a look at it.
Yes, it's not easy to admin, especially in the beginning, but they have answers to many questions in the support forums.
And it stores data in the database more effectively. PHPBB had a database over 1GB and it kept growing and causing troubles. The same database on VB is 300KB.

    Lightbulb

Ур-ра! I did find a way to get the desired list

    • go to "Advanced Search" link
    • Select in "Additional Options"
      • Find Post "A Week Ago", "and Newer"
      • Sort Results by "Date", "in Descending Order"

    • Press "Search Now"
    • Enjoy

Is it possible to make a Short Link or a Button at the main page to get such a list?

    Images now disabled in sig

I had to remove my little демоническая утка

Couldn't there just be a pixel/filesize limit on sig images instead?

Our forum is here: Learn German Forum - AboutGerman.net

It's just about two months old in this place and with this software, but the regulars have been with us through previous incarnations of the forum for years. I should add that I have been made admin for that forum, but I am not the owner. Previous to VBulletin we were located on Delphiforums.com, and before that on about.com. In neither case do the owners have any influence on the forum software, and it is going from bad to worse with each update.

BTW, would it be OK if I put a link in my sig pointing there?

There is something wrong with avatars.
    Jpg - avatars are Ok.
Gif - Avatars are reduced to 80x80 pixels only and doesn't support a transparent background.

Send me a PM if you need me.

When using a quote box it is always in italic
The quote box is not easy to read when it is all in italic. It would be better if the quote box will accept the original font appearance. The quotation is anyway marked by the box envelop and colored background. So there is no need to change the font within the quote box additionally.

In a user's post under the user's avatar there is some information like: join date, posts, Rep power. There is also a line "location", so the problem is as follows: if a user input in his location a phrase more then three words the line became too long and wrapped. So the rest of the line starts at the next row exactly at the point where word "location" starts.

    Location: Novosibirsk,
    Snowbearia, Russia

It would be better if the rest of the line would start at the point where the first word of the "location entry" starts. Like a table cell.

    Location: Novosibirsk,
    .............Snowbearia,
    .............Russia.

One more point: Maybe it would be suitable for this forum to add a line "Native language" for the user's data.

I am going to keep the Location formatting settings as intended by the developers of Vbulletin forum software (same as we have already).
As for the "Native language", do you mean to say that you want the forum interface to be translated into Russian?

I mean that people will know what is the native language of the user by just looking under the user's avatar. Like they know where he from by looking at the "location" line. One more line to add to the existed "location", "posts", "rep power"
