The only difference, as I said, is in making the consonants soft.

mekko, buy yourself a first-year grammar book that includes a CD with pronunciation examples. The hard/soft difference is a major element of Russian consonants and you need to know how to pronounce them correctly. If you don't, people will make fun of you like they do with the Georgians, who don't understand palatalization either!!! =:^)

Or just will be very surprised. Imagine a person, who mixes up 'sheep' and 'ship', 'beach' and 'bitch', 'feel' and 'fill' etc. It would sound strange.If you don't, people will make fun of you.

Это в связи с различением /i/ и /i:/.
Много лет назад я работал в одном здании с FBI/ФБР (в те времена я был апаратчиком). Один из ФБРчиков (неофициально!) продавал футболки, на которых были изображены щит и меч, то-есть герб КГБ. Внизу под изображением был лозунг - «Булщит и меч».

В "то есть", "что бы", "как же", "так же" НЕТ НИКАКОГО ДЕФИСА.
