    Help Needed Here

Im new to this and starting to learn Russia. I dont have a Russian Keyboard, However, I need help in pronunciations of words and how to spell them, phonetically.

First I would like to know how to say, "Hello, How are you?".

And also to say "Take care, write soon".

    Thanks.

    Hello, how are you?
    здравствуйте, Как дела ?
    Zdravstvuite, Kak dela?

    All the best, write soon.
    Всего наилучшего, напишите скоро.
    Vsevo naeeluchshevo, napeesheete skoro.

    Eh, something like that.
Just watch out for that first word.
I had problems saying it when I got started.

I think the problem is not in being formal, the problem is pairing "как дела" with "здравствуйте".

Please also mind that we don't use "Как дела?" casually as a form of "hello" as you do in English. In Russian if you ask how the person is doing, most often it means you are interested in how he is doing and are willing to stop to hear about it.

Yes, the only time I heard it was used like a formal British "how do you do" it was in a speech of 2 Caucasians, for both of whom Russian was not a native language.

I was asked " как дела" not long ago by a Ukrainian girl working the cash register at a store here.

I don't mean it is unusual to ask "как дела", quite opposite, it is usual, but only if you expect to receive some form of a logical answer, however formal it would be.

I can see the slight confusion here ... of course you're right, Propp, about "How do you do" in that it doesn't need an answer except "How do you do", but the youngsters around here will be a little confused because "how do you do" is almost out of usage, it's only used really in formal situations (maybe two businessmen). We Anglophone learners always think of "как дела" as being directly equivalent to things like "How are you", "How's it going?", which do require an answer, however perfunctory, just as "как дела" does, at least for now? (Maybe they're going the same way as "How do you do" did?).
In England "Alright?" is very popular in very informal situations too.

From my experience quite often you can hear as answer just "нормально, как у тебя?" without any extra details.

Like when people have a question on some forum and they say "привет как дела i have a question blah blah blah..." yes then i agree it looks really stupid, because it's not supposed to be used like "what's up".
