I'm just curious about this - am I the only one around here who deplores the modern trend to add the apostrophe, which in my view is only to be used to indicate possession, in plurals like "the 1970's" (or "the me's").
To my utter despair, I've seen English teachers argue that this is OK.
Don't get me wrong, I understand why people do it, but it just makes it more difficult to kids to learn to use apostrophes properly.

Are we forever condemned to see greengrocers selling "banana's"?
