The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) (Russian: Содружество Независимых Государств, СНГ) is a regional organization whose participating countries are former Soviet Republics.

The CIS is comparable to a confederation similar to the original European Community. Although the CIS has few supranational powers, it is more than a purely symbolic organization, possessing coordinating powers in the realm of trade, finance, lawmaking, and security. It has also promoted cooperation on democratization and cross-border crime prevention. As a regional organization, CIS participates in UN peacekeeping forces. Some of the members of the CIS have established the Eurasian Economic Community with the aim of creating a full-fledged common market. 1) What is Csi? there are the same relationship among the countries as the Soviet Era? Are the countries free to choose something on their own?

I can't find a lot of stuff about this topic..if someone could explain something more technic and interesting.....

Я думаю, что СНГ, в отличие от НАТО или Евросоюза, более свободное объединение. За уши туда никто никого не тащит и насильно в нём не удерживает. Поэтому, разным Ющенко и Саакашвилли, любящим строгие ошейники и смирительные рубашки от своих западных хозяев, это объединение не подходит.

По теме: НАТО реальный военно-политический блок, а СНГ вообще ничто, имхо. Если бы Украина и Грузия не граничили с нами, нам бы было пофиг на их участие в блоках. А так, получается как в 41-ом, никакого буфера между нами и немцами. Насчет того, что туда тянули кого-то силком сильно сомневаюсь, но тот факт, что нам (после просьбы Хрущева о включении СССР в НАТО) отказали, нужно помнить всегда.
