Obama's visit to Russia - Your Thoughts??
SO, as of last night and this morning, there were basically three things on local Washington, D.C. area TV news:
1. Michael Jackson
2. Marion Barry arrested, yet again
and
3. Obama's visit to Russia, including the fact that he brought his daughters with him. Maybe they wanted to see the bears walking down the streets! :D
So once again... I am coming straight to the source and asking for your thoughts on all of this... so please answer away!
So, what kind of covereage is his trip getting there?
What do you think will come of all of this?
Is his visit really a big deal to the Russian people; and, by bringing his wife and kids does that make it more "special" in any way?
"They" already said here that Obama has "insulted" Putin. With the "One foot in the past and one foot in the future" comment. How did that go over there with the people and in the press? And what did you think of Putin's response of "We cannot be doing the splits. Instead we are our firmly planting our feet and facing the future."
Other comments thoughts on Obama's visit???
Re: Obama's visit to Russia - Your Thoughts??
So far the Russian coverage is that there are no real issues to discuss. Both countries are so different on the political front that the visit is more about establishing a personal contact between the leaders.

Yes, more likely they simply need to get to know each other.
But there's also START negotiations in the agenda. They may even sign it.

Ramil... thank you for teaching me a new a new acronym... I had not heard Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty referred to as START....
So, instead of learning Russian, I am learning technology like "Unused computer time," history, that bears no longer roam the streets (you are certain about this?), and that many Russians... are not EVIL - just stubborn as all and upon occasion... you might actually catch one smiling… but if there is no one there to be your witness, it will be denied at all costs. :spiteful:

Yes! The people of Washington, D.C. LOVE him even after he served six months in a federal prison, he was elected to the D.C. city council in 1992 and THEN, and THEN, he became MAYOR AGAIN in 1994. These days he is back on the City Council even though he has the whole Tax Evasion problems and was pulled over by the Secret Service for possible drunk driving. They call him "Mayor for Life." Is he not the perfect example of a role model for the young black male youth of D.C.?

When I was reading Izvestia last year during the campaign I remember them quoting experts saying that Mc Cain would be better for Russia to deal with.
I heard such opinion too. But I actually think that they ensured themselves in case if Obama would win and would not be as good as he seemed. :D
Re: Obama's visit to Russia - Your Thoughts??
I find it curious that Russians should be doing searches linking the keywords 'Obama' and 'antichrist' as I mentioned somewhere else. Maybe his political enemies back home might consider that line of attack.
Re: Obama's visit to Russia - Your Thoughts??
O'Bama and idiot are good search terms. He is a puppet of the tax and spend to death American Democratics. Medvedev is Putin-Lite. Same old, same old. Best is for the people to talk, but politburo and congress is perverse and stop us.
Russia and USA get rid of some old nukes; that's good for money... Keep Iran and North Korea nuke-free is important. Fuckin nut-jobs will start a war!
I read that Americans trust/don't trust Russia... Russians trust/don't trust America.
Pravda or New York Times... :wall:

My God, how much hate...
Until people like you exist, probability of war remains, indeed.
Re: Obama's visit to Russia - Your Thoughts??
With regard to the "Mayor for life", I would think that people living in the former Soviet Union should be quite familiar with the issue of corrupt officials. Matthew Chance, CNN's Moscow correspondent, recently complained in an interview that everyone in Russia, from the senior office holder to the traffic cop, everyone takes bribes. Meanwhile in the Ukraine, Yulia Timoshenko, the prime minister and presidential candidate, is someone who narrowly escaped conviction for embezzlement and corruption not once, but twice. A great role model for Ukranian young women.

Correct is: WHILE people like you exist, THE probability of war remains, indeed. I'm not a grammarian, but I think the rule is that the subordinative conjunction 'until' is only used to introduce a temporal clause when the main clause expresses a negation; for example, : I will not let you watch television, until you have finished your homework. 'As long as' or 'while' can be used with or without a negation in the main clause.
More natural: While people like you exist, truly, the probability of war remains.
Re: Obama's visit to Russia - Your Thoughts??
Oh well, for Obama...
He should have probably hired a Russian PR company and posted on MasterRussian forum before his visit to Russia :)
"We are maybe the one country in the world where there is no Obamamania," Sergei Markov, a parliamentary deputy from the ruling United Russia party, told Reuters.

Yeah :)
Anyone who is familiar with at least one programming language is aware of the difference between while and until loops. )))

Actually I was wrong. Again, I am not quoting from a grammar, but 'until' CAN be used to introduce a temporal clause with or without a negation in the main clause e.g., You can watch television, until your father comes home. It seems as though 'until' does not introduce a temporal clause that has a main verb signifying being or existence. So you can say either:
As long as you exist, war is likely, or:
Until he is dead, war is likely, but not:
Until you exist, etc.

Oh, really? I've never met "until" loops in ANSI (American National Standards Institute) C programming language.
