Thread: Geogian mass media fakes Russian invasion

This is surreal:

A program broadcast Saturday by Georgia's Imeldi Television used file footage from the 2008 Russian invasion of the former Soviet republic to depict a fictional "new" invasion. The episode stirred panic in Georgia reminiscent of Orson Welles' famous War of the Worlds radio broadcast.

Сегодня во всех грузинских СМИ появилась информация о том, что перехваченный якобы телефонный разговор между руководителем этого телеканала и Саакашвили - злостная провокация российских спецслужб. Саакашвили, типа, не знал ни о чём.

Какая разница знал или нет? Если такое возможно при президенте, то это фуфло, а не политический строй.

Мне все больше кажется, что Саакашвили ставит эксперимент: долго ли народ его еще будет терпеть.

Agree with Sperk - it's totally surreal. (But then, the president of the country is a man who chews on his tie on live TV... and uses an EU flag on his TV broadcasts despite not even being an approved EU candidate country.. Hopefully they have elections there and can elect a more sensible leader.)

But why would they do it? If it's propaganda it's so blunt that it's pathetic... If it's supposed to be some kind of civilian or military exercise, then why didn't they inform the people first?

If Russia ever does invade(although it seems unlikely) then it will be like the "boy who cried wolf". The citizens will just think "yeah, yeah, we've heard that one before...."

If I was the general who commanded the invasion to Georgia I'd marked the communications facilities as primary targets, well, right after the airfields. No broadcasting company would be on the air within minutes.

THAT was not surreal.

The famous radio play by Orson Welles "The war of the worlds" was really surreal.
