Thread: Evil commie Nikita Khrushchev :)

After recent heated debates about Soviet poltical system I thought about former Soviet poltical leaders and recalled one very evil commie - Nikita Khrushchev. The one who was the participant of Caribbean crisis.

A lot of people think he was stupid an poke fun at him because of his wild obsession with the corn, his colloquial speech, constant cursing and that incident at the meeting of the United Nations Organization when he took off his shoe and banged the table with it cursing in very funny way to express his disagree.

Yes, he made some mistakes and said some things I don't agree with but actually I like the guy.

After all he was the one who revealed Stalin's crimes, rehabilitated political prisoners and started soviet space program (first launch of the sputnik and first man in the space).

He also was funny to listen to. Here are some quotes:

“Politicians are the same all over. They promise to build bridges even when there are no rivers.”

“The main difference for the history of the world if I had been shot rather than Kennedy is that Onassis probably wouldn't have married Mrs Khrushchev.”

“Support by United States rulers is rather in the nature of the support that the rope gives to a hanged man.”

“Do you think when two representatives holding diametrically opposing views get together and shake hands, the contradictions between our systems will simply melt away? What kind of a daydream is that?”

And that is my favourite though it's probably slightly incorrect:
"While you're screwing around here, they've already built communism in America!" (after visiting USA)

I like that right or wrong he always said what he thought. A rare and dangerous habbit for a politician.

The author is Ernst Neizvestny

Half of it is black and the other one is white which is a symbol of his ambivalent role in Soviet history. He has accomplished many great things and made great many mistakes. I think he's the most ambiguous politic in the whole Russian history.

Probably in English it is, but in Russian it's called Caribbean.
After all Cuba is in Caribbean Sea. :wink
