I think someone here is being too much of a grammar Nazi. No names, no pack drill. It's such a minor thing, as a native speaker of Russian, I wouldn't have even noticed it if someone hadn't started to kick up a stink about it. The more I repeat the "incorrect" phrase to myself, the less incorrect it sounds to me. Who knows, I might have even heard people say so. At any rate, it's definitely NOT the kind of mistake that could make you stand out as a foreigner. Even if it is a mistake, it's not what the common Russian in the street will notice.

I like knowing all the rules, even the minor ones, but I like it even more when I know them AND find out that they are ok to break.

Выражаться попроще не так уж просто.

У нас учат выражаться полными предложениями. Постоянно удивляюсь тому, как обходятся русккие без этого. Например, если хочу узнать, хочет ли мама, чтобы я открыл окно, у нас я говорю, «Should I open open the window?» или «Do you want me to open the window?», а русские просто показывают на окно и одним слово спрашивают, «Открыть?»

Когда можно а когда нельзя в русском пропустить слова-это меня озадачивает без конца.

Когда и так всё ясно, зачем мучить себя длинными монологами?

Как я тебя понимаю... У нас поначалу учат отвечать не кратко, а повторяя весь вопрос.)) Но делается это для того, чтобы учащиеся больше говорили. Сразу заметно, кто к каким ошибкам склонен. Ясное дело, об ошибках сообщают, анализируют их, советуют, как от них избавиться.

А меня вот наоборот убивает, когда на другом языке нельзя сказать кратко то, что звучит кратко на русском!
