This sentence refers to a university or college, right?
Not to a school?

The reason why this gets confused is because of the differences between American and British English in this respect.
In Britain/Australia and Canada:
Universities have Lecturers and Students. (Senior lecturers may be Professors, a very senior title)
Schools have Headmasters, teachers and pupils
(College is for vocational training or attended by by pupils before the start university)In the United States:
Colleges have Professors (meaning teachers/lecturers) and Students).
A University is very large college which offers Masters and Doctors degrees.
Schools have Principals, teachers and students.
