    Is this some sort of a common saying?

    I don't know why, but I would write it with a hyphen, "Кукушка-кукушка, сколько мне жить осталось?"

    Человек, который делал эти субтитры, ВЕЗДЕ пишет "ето" вместо "это" (хотя в фильме говорят "это"), а ты с такой мелочью...
    In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

    Yes, supposedly if you hear a cuckoo cuckooing, the number of cuckoos would correspond to a number of years that remain for you to live. A stupid, but very widespread superstition.
