Nahh. That sounds weird. It sounds as if A. they're already lost, but you're not sure where, maybe in the forest, or B. someone else loses them in the forest (oh whoops - honey, I dropped the kids somewhere.... )

Better:
".... could get lost in the forest" (=possibility, they might just get lost) or ".... would get lost in the forest" (=they're almost sure to get lost)
