Thread: To "take" a pill?

In English, you use the word "take" for pills. You can even say the word "swallow" if you wanna be more direct about the action in which you are taking the pill.

In Hebrew, for instance, there is a special word for "taking" a pill.

How does it work in Russian?

Принимать таблетки

Например: "Ты уже принял таблетку?"

пить таблетки is more common, but less correct though

Incidentally, in American English, to "take" is normal, but "to eat a pill" is a version used almost exclusively by individuals who abuse prescription substances, or pilled substances in general.

A bit related, but if I change the sentence from Ты to вы I need to use приняли instead of принял?

yes, if you address a person respectfully by Вы all verbs are used in plural but not full adjectives
shortened adjectives on the other hand are used in plural as well which however may sound pathetic or turgid

Yea, sorry. Anyway, with respect to the word "litol" in Hebrew, you may be right that it's archaic and poetical to use it the way you mean it, but you never hear it in day to day with respect to anything else but pills ...so I would still say it's specific to pills in today's practical day-to-day Hebrew. Though, to be honest, I even hardly hear "litol" for pills, people just use "take" (lakahat).

Anyway..aherm... thanks for the replies, sorry for breaking the rules again.
