Thread: such a long time

I could imagine someone stomping in the door, throwing a can of tomatoes at the refrigerator, and having his wife ask: "Where have you been all this time?" He would then answer: "I've been standing in line three hours for these tomatoes you wanted!" However, if the question is, "What took you so long?", the answer has to be: "I stood in line for three hours." Also, you can only use the former if purchasing tomatoes is the primary action of the last three hours; if you've been out for five hours and two were at a movie, you can't use it unless the movie is already known information to both parties.

Who stands in line for three hours just to buy tomatoes?

'уже долго" sounds no good..

Much better - Я стою в очереди уже два часа.

(Although your variants may be correct grammaticaly, they betray you as a foreigner...)

"Я уже долго стою в очереди" sounds ok.
"Я уже стою в очереди два часа" sounds ok, but "Я стою в очереди уже два часа" is better.

Я бы так не сказал. По моему субъективному восприятию это сочетание некрасиво звучит. Как говорится сколько людей столько и мнений

(Иными словами это уже дело стиля а не грамматики - в своем стиле я таких выражений как "уже долго" не допускаю.)

В разговорной речи чего только не бывает...
Скорее всего, если бы ты услышал такое в очереди, то даже не обратил бы внимания
