What is the easiest way to get the stem of the word? or is there any specified groundwork?

If you are talking about a noun, the stem is:

If it ends in a consonant, the whole word is the stem:
Стол
Кот
Мальчик

If it ends in a hard vowel, remove the vowel, and insert a fill vowel where necessary: (The genitive plural of feminine and neuter nouns is generally their stem).

Вода - Вод
Мама - Мам
марка - марок
песня - песен

If the word ends in a soft vowel, the softness usually remains:
Катя - Кать
Море - Морь
Россия - Россий

Look attentively at the morphemic structure of a word when it's difficult to single out its root. In simple words, all derivational and inflexional morphemes are either at the beginning of a word or at its end.

Maybe the theory of Immediate Constituency Grammar (IC Grammar) will help you. Unfortaunately this forum doesn't allow to show how it works but it's not hard, believe me.

I think root and stem are different. I think my post talked about stems, and yours about roots.

That the genitive plural and not the stem.

There's no word form "морь". Nowhere.

Моря

Морях

The stem is [мор'], it's obvious.
' means softness of a consonant. Морей = [мор'+эй] etc.

As Propp said, the stem is.... well the stem of the word to which grammatical endings are added:

Морь + о ---> Море
Stem + neuter ending ---> Neuter noun

Морь + a ----> Моря
Stem + genitive ending ---> Genitive
