You can use both as far as I know. I would use 'On' more personally.
'To your left' sounds like more of an instruction, 'On your left' sounds a little more casual.
Please correct any Russian language mistakes I make.
Yeah, I usually say 'on your left' indicating that I am coming on his left side. If I say 'to your left', he might think I want him to go to his left side... and disaster!
