Thread: Other forms of нравиться

I am curious, when would you use the other forms (1st person, second person, etc) of the verb 'нравиться?' Every time I see this verb in use, it is in constructions like "Мне нравятся яблоки." I was watching a scene from a film, in which the characters said 'нравлюсь.'

From context, I think I have an idea of when it would be used, but I am not entirely sure. Could someone please provide a clear explanation?

Мне нравится = I like/love somehting/somebody or to do something.

Я нравлюсь нечистой силе.
Ты нравишься нечистой силе.
Он(она, оно) нравится нечистой силе.
Они нравятся нечистой силе.
Мы нравимся нечистой силе.
Ему (ей, им) нравится нечистая сила.

Мне нравится летать не метле.
Им нравися летать на метле.
Тебе нравится летать на метле?
Ему (ей, им) нравится летать на метле.

Я нравлюсь нечистой силе.

This basically means "The forces of darkness are fond of me," right? (Lit., "I am pleasing to the unclean force")

But Мне нравится нечистая сила is "I am fond of the forces of darkness" (Lit., "The unclean force is pleasing to me")

In other words, krwright, if you keep in mind that the literal underlying meaning of нравиться (+ dative) is "to be pleasing to", it's easier to figure out when to say тебе нравится кто-нибудь ("you like someone") as opposed to ты нравишься кому-нибудь ("someone likes you").

Мне нравится летать не метле.

"I like to fly on a broom"
