For number 1. your English style is just a bit incorrect:
"None of the foreigners have much money"

    2. Correct
    3. Correct

    4. isn't correct:
My mum is looking after the half-dead dog of a very old lady.

пожилой дамы is the genitive case (of пожилая дама), so it denotes possession (of the dog)

The Russian phrase doesn't sound natural either.

Hahaha, I didn't notice this one. It's an obvious mistake.
Мама смотрит на полумёртвую собаку - Mom looks at the half-dead dog (like this dog is lying somewhere on the road and this woman stares at it)

My mother looks after the half-dead dog - Мама присматривает за полумертвой собакой... (other possible variants are "приглядывает за собакой", "заботится о собаке", etc.)

The source of those sentences are from this site:
    http://www.du.edu/langlit/russian/genx.htm

Guess it's not a very good site to brush up on my grammar. Think I'll just give it a miss. Thanks guys.

I now know between 2000 to 3000 Russian words and badly need to improve my grammar. I am thinking of getting the Schaum's Outline Russian Grammar or the Terrence Wade Russian Grammar Workbook to work through it. What do you guys think? The Schaum or the T Wade book is more suitable for me?

Those sentences are not composed(?) by a Russian native speaker, and many of them are weird. Don't use them.

Не расстраивайся. Обсуждение чужих ошибок иногда интереснее и полезнее простого перевода или подстановки окончаний, так что этот сайт не так бесполезен, как может показаться на первый взгляд.

Но предложения составлял явно не русскоязычный товарищ.

I hope you don't mind, I'll try my best to translate you sentenses. Please correct my errors. Here it goes ........

To discuss someone else's mistakes can sometimes be interesting and useful.
Still, such sites are not useless as you can have a first glance.

It is clear that those sentences are not given by a native Russian speaker.

Olya can you be more helpful. Yes, the sentences have mistakes in them and they are not in correct Russian but I'm sure you can understand what they are supposed to mean. The other Russians are able to.

    Of course I don't.
Here's a rough translation of my previous post (it seems, you misunderstood some parts, please, just compare your version to my own):

Don't be discouraged. Discussing someone's mistakes sometimes is more interesting and useful, than plain translation or matching (?) of the word endings. Thus this site is not as useless as it may seem at a glance.

Но предложения составлял явно не русскоязычный товарищ.
This one is correct. "Составлять" is closer to "compose", though. "Товарищ" is often used jokingly or ironically as a synonym for "person/man".

Well, you are wrong. I did't understand that (№1 and №4). Maybe it's because of that I don't understand English very well. Что касается helpful, пусть автор вопроса сам решает, ок? "The other Russians" не поправили "итальянскую жену".

И хватить оффтопить with personal attacks.
